A Fairy Tale of the Two

I believe that everyone prays to God at least once in their lives. Even if they do not believe that he exists, the one day that they pray will inevitably arrive. All human beings will pray for something. They will wish to pursue it. They will want to reach out and take hold of it. It is something imagined from our affinities and our emotions. Of that much I am certain.

For almost two long years, through pain, sweat and tears, we have toiled to bring you this release. Now, on the eve of our moment of triumph, one question remains: What is ef? Eternal Feather, Emotional Flutter, Ever Forever? Perhaps none of these things, and yet it is so much more than what it makes itself out to be.

ef is a visual novel among visual novels, something beyond the standard click and read. No longer are you limited to a single protagonist, but rather are shown the story through the eyes of all who are involved. It is a method that’s rarely used for this genre as it creates an experience that’s more cinematic than literary, making ef an unique addition to the medium. It is a story, not of one, not of two, but of over half a dozen characters, complete strangers to each other, whose lives are all intertwined around one another.

It is through their collective narratives, that we get a fairy tale of the two.

The story of ef will be divided into two halves, the first tale and the latter tale.

This will be the first tale, containing two stories about the past. Two pieces of the puzzle centered around overcoming fears and surpassing the limitations created by our memories. Sometimes you have to take a step back before you can move forward, sometimes you just have to close your eyes and make the first move.

So with that being said, won’t you join us for the first half of this fairy tale?

  1. Ahh I definitely need to get this, I loved the anime series

  2. Is a trial version going to be up before the preorder period ends?

  3. Will gladly join you WHEN IT GETS RELEASED ALREDY

  4. I kind of forgot about this. I was expecting past Eden by now. 🙁

  5. ef – the first tale and ef – the latter tale were the first 2 eroges I ever played. I struggled thru the first tale w/ AGTH and Atlas and by the time the latter tale rolled around, I was much better in Japanese and was able to understand it better ( <3 Chihiro ^__ロ ). They are incredible games and while SHAFT got a lot right in the anime, they also messed up a lot. They left out almost the entire Kei/Kyousuke storyline from BOTH ef-memories and ef-melodies, which was a shame, and REALLY messed up one of the most gut-wrenching scenes from the latter tale in ef-melodies. You guys need to play this, especially if you've seen the animes.

Mangagamer, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make this available in hard copies at some point in time. I will be the first to line up and throw my money at you. I have the JP hard copies of both games already and would love to see the ENG versions sitting up there right beside them. ^__^

  6. I just made my preorder. Would’ve made it yesterday but I was working on completing a school project that involved so much work it was bringing to the edge of a nervous break down. Can’t wait for this game, because Lord knows I’ve been waiting long enough.

  7. Seconding a physical release. I’ve been waiting for this release since it was first announced, and I would love more than anything to own a physical copy of the game. The anime series is one of my all-time favourites, so I really would love to buy a physical copy of the game. Please consider it!

  8. Seriously considering updating Parallels and Windows on my Mac just to play this. In an ideal world, we’d get a version for the iPad too, but the censors at Apple would never let an eroge on the App Store.

    • All-ages versions are allowed, as you can get KiraKira and Higurashi on iphone/ipad in the US and the all-ages Deardrops and a number of other games on the Japanese store.

    • I, also, would love to see a unix version of BGI (to play on linux, for me).
If OverDrive need people to port it, I know some. ^^

and +1 for hard-copies of the tales.

    • Solstice_Of_Light

Is it impossible to create an app without selling through the app store?

  9. YEAAA!!! finally .. pre-orded and can’t wait until it is released on the 27th

I’m happy that i lived long enough to see it come available

  10. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this, and pre-ordered as soon as I got an e-mail about them being opened. I’ll be going in completely unfamiliar with it, having not even read a synopsis, so I look forward to being pleasantly surprised.

  11. I’m not so sure about this typeface.

    • ef includes the option to change typefaces, so if you don’t like it, you should be able to choose another one.

  12. Solstice_Of_Light

If there are 2 animes that will never die, ef is in the list.
I’m looking forwards to this a lot!

  13. Pre-ordered, but would love a hard copy some day.

  14. Is there a chance that this will get a hard copy? I would instantly buy it definitely

  15. FINALLY! I can delete the ollld demo and AGTH off my laptop and truly immerse myself! If this is anything like the ef-memo anime or better, I’m in for one HECK of a ride! XD

Pre-ordered it last Friday as soon as I heard the announcement (and discount!) I forsee a sleepless weekend ahead while at Otakon 😉

Put me in the hard copy bandwagon as well! ^^
