2018 in Review and the 2019 Licensing Survey Begins!

We’re a little late with the yearly recap this year, but what a year 2018 was for us here at MangaGamer!

We released 16 games and announced 12 more; in a completely new category for us we released the House in Fata Morgana: Live in Osaka; and we released our very first crowdfunded original title––Koropokkur – A Little Fairy’s Tale!

But why don’t we cut right to the chase and get to what we know you’re all really here for––the year-end sales rankings:

  1. …Nuts. The Funbag Fantasy sequel didn’t even get in the top ten. That really bites, and I guess explains why editing on the release of the next one has kind of stalled out. And will probably put a dent in localization of further titles in the series.

    Oh well. Life goes on.

    • It pains my heart that it flopped, considering that Funbag Funtasy: Sideboob Story was my favorite release of 2018…

      • And I can’t even get the survey to open so I can at least give them anecdotal evidence.

      • Wait, Hapymaher was 4th? That’s impressively unexpected. I expected it to flop honestly speaking. Same goes for Maidens of Michael being 6th, but I shouldn’t underestimate yuri games.

Evenicle is no surprise at first, though the high Steam ranking is unexpected. It’s also nice to see Rance VI hang in on 8th place.

      • I doubt it flopped. Original is selling like hotcakes. I think it just suffers sequel-syndrome which is that unless people have played first, they won’t buy second at full price ahead of time. They need to finish the game or see a discounted price to buy them.

    • Definitely sucks.

  2. Evenicle being top seller was to be expected, it was pretty well received and a long time in the charts.

Magical Marriage Lunatics being second has probably more to do with the popularity of Princess Evangile and less with its actual quality, since most people seemed to have been disappointed by it.

Imopara 2 being a high quality nukige, it was clear that it would get a high ranking.

Hapymaher on fourth place is okay I guess, although it kind of hurts that it is below MML.

And nice to see that Fata Morgana still had a good sales ranking on Steam.

  3. You had a good run, Eroge! It’s sad to finally see you leaving the top ten. PE leaves as well, though its influence is felt in MML’s placement, but at least Imopara is still going strong.

  4. Yes! Great to see Hapymaher ran so well – now please bring us the fandisc too!

  5. It’s time.

All of us need to contact ALL of our friends/contacts/associates and ask them to ask Mangagamer for a partnership with Lune.

Tell them to tell Mangagamer to license Youkoso! Sukebe Elf no Mori e/ ようこそ! スケベエルフの森へ https://vndb.org/v20464

and/or tell them to tell Mangagamer to license some of Lune’s older titles as well.

Aku no Onna Kanbu 1 is actually a pretty good VN to license as well.

SPREAD THE WORD and LET’S DO THIS.

  6. I would be very happy, if you would license more Shonen-Ai/Yaoi and Otome Games in 2019. I would directly buy all of them ♥♥♥ I already own the ones you have published yet^^ Ok, I know you are more an site for Ecchi/Hentai, but nevertheless more different genres would be great.

  8. More ClockUp titles! I suggest Erewhon.

  9. I really hope the Tenioha sequels and Funbag Fantasy sequels’ll come soon.

  10. Um.. Even through I’ve already filled licensing survey, after that I got not just one but two (!) emails from MG “We want to hear for you”, asking me to fill the licensing survey 🙂

Regarding survey itself: we need moar licensed titles from Liar-Soft and ClockUp, please!

  11. Something you may find interesting is the ten games listed in the MangaGamer.com 2018 Ranking are all without mosaics.
