A Short Look Back, Part 16

With our fifth year anniversary coming to a close, we decided to take a moment to showcase some of the thoughts and feelings of the staff that have been a part of MangaGamer over the years. This one comes from one of our newest translators, Good Haro!

Hi, I’m Good Haro. I only joined MangaGamer last year as a translator for Ultimate Boob Wars, so this’ll be an especially short look back.

I guess my situation’s not too dissimilar to many of the other staff here. I’d been into anime and manga since as far back as I can remember and I started getting into visual novels in high school. I went to college, got a degree in Japanese (that wasn’t really the plan, but it just kinda happened that way) and then had no idea what to do with myself.

I’ve been involved in the fan community for a few years doing some fansubbing and unofficial visual novel projects, but that kind of thing doesn’t exactly pay the bills. So, last year when Doddler was asking around on IRC for translators I jumped at the opportunity to make some money doing something I enjoy. And that’s how I came to translate Boob Wars 2.

I was happy to be getting any kind of job at the time, so I told my little sister about itโ€”apparently, her favorite ice-breaker with her coworkers is now, “Hey, did you know my sister translates Japanese porn games?” Maybe all her ‘advertising’ will get us some new customers? Anyway, I learned a lot in the process of working on Boob Wars 2 and I’ve been enjoying getting to know the rest of the staff here.

I’ve only just started working with MangaGamer, but with my next assignment underway I’m pretty excited about the future here. It hasn’t been announced yet, so, I can’t really say too much, but I’m really fond of it (I still kind of can’t believe I actually get to work on it). It’s pretty different from anything MangaGamer’s released before and I’m sure a lot of you will take one look at it and go ‘no thanks,’ but I hope you guys give it a chance!

  1. It is good to see MangaGamer bringing on more women.

    Your little sister sounds fun!

I’m looking forward to Boob Wars 2 and I hope it does well so we can get other Grandee titles.

I wonder if your second project is the same project that Tim was complaining about a little while back.

  2. Hmm… Now that’s cryptic. Something you’re fond of but think a lot of us will not want? Looking forward to finding out what it is, then. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Must be a BL game. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  4. My guess is No Thank You! or Euphoria. Both would be great! I heard rumours about both.

  5. Welcome and I’ll be looking forward to Boob Wars 2 ๐Ÿ™‚
Now to start brainstorming on what this unannounced title could be. It’s something one would feel amazed at translating and is so different from MG’s usual releases it might turn some people away….
    Okay, here are my guesses:
    1) euphoria. It’s from Clockup, which we know has a deal with MG, it’s been heavily requested though those who weren’t aware of it were pretty wary of it when they took a look at its premise, also considering Eroge! seems to be selling pretty well (it’s been on the top list since its release) it makes sense another Clockup game would be on the way.
    2) MG’s been able to make a deal with Cyc for the classic Black Cyc games. This one’s more wishful thinking, but considering the company did talk to JAST that does mean they t least some interest in localization and there are quite a few games in its library that fit the unusual description. I realize that deal fell through because of programming issues, but considering MG seems to have a more competent programming staff than JAST…
    3) MG has made a deal with Speed for the Kansen games. Again wishful thinking, but I don’t think MG has released a zombie eroge so…

  6. Hmm, since Haro seems to be a girl and she’s fond to translate it, my first guess would be an Otome game.

  7. If it’s a BL or otome game you guys have my purchase~.
