St. Michael Girls’ School Column #1 – The Day-to-Day of Yuri Vol. 1

FB Post

Hello there.

This is A Kiss For The Petals series producer Mi Kara Deta Saba.

It’s hard to believe it’s been this long, but the series is nearly in its ninth year…

We’re doing our best to continue bringing you works of yuri, so we appreciate all your continued support.

Also, when you spend all these years making 18+ yuri games, you become aware of certain day-to-day particulars as a yuri game producer. I’d like to take this opportunity to discuss some of those, if I may.

The Day-to-Day of Yuri Vol. 1: Dos and Don’ts

Nine years ago, I received a lot of mail when the doujin circle Fuguriya announced A Kiss For The Petals.

The bulk of them were supportive emails along the lines of, “There aren’t enough yuri games out there, so I’m looking forward to this” or “Please keep making these!”

However, they would all conclude with things like,

“Don’t have the main character end up being a boy dressed as a girl!” or,

“Don’t have any girls grow d*cks between their legs!” or,

“Don’t have a male character swoop in at the end and steal the girl away!”

…And even more sorrowful pleas from users who had apparently been betrayed in the past…

So, under the clearly-defined concept for the series, there would be:

  • No entanglements with male characters
  • No toys like dildos or vibrators
  • No hermaphrodites or gender transformations (such as male protagonists becoming female).

With those tenets laid out, we had a clear view of our goal to create a dirty, yuri, romantic comedy. Basically that means there are a lot of things you have to avoid, even more than if you were making a traditional (male/female) “pure love” type of game.

…Or more like, there’s a high probability of ticking off yuri game fans if you make something that ignores those tenets (*sweat*).

Check back next week for Vol. 2 in which Mi Kara Deta Saba discusses the challenges of producing art for the A Kiss For The Petals series!
