Otakon 2017 Announcements!

Our Otakon panel is over! A big thank you to everyone who attended! And without further ado, our announcements from this con…

First up we had several new English Originals to announce tonight!

From the developers Tamaya Kagiya comes His Chuunibyou Can’t be Cured! Inspired by titles like the anime The Pet Girl of Sakurasou, this studio formed by joining together both Western and Eastern developers in hopes of inspiring others. Their first title, His Chuunibyou Can’t Be Cured, has already been successfully Kickstarted and tells a story of a gaming student determined to create his own video game alongside several talented artists.

Their debut title is currently expected to be available on MangaGamer and Steam this fall!

Also coming soon this fall is Tsukiware’s second major title, Tower of Five Hearts, a yuri tale of several maids in service to their princess, all hoping to become her bride for the sake of their respective kingdoms. With artwork by Ryle, you can enjoy fox girls, dog girls, lamia, bunny girls, and catgirls all competing for one lucky woman’s hand in marriage.

Also coming soon to MangaGamer are the next two Lupiesoft titles: The Stargazers: Remastered and Dizzy Hearts. The former will be a significant revamp of the previous released The Stargazers, with new chapters, new sprites, new CG, and voices.

But that’s not all! We also announced six new titles for localization!

To kick off our localization announcements, while admittedly not a 100% new title, we’re really excited to be able to announce that Supipara has hit its goal for Chapter 2!

Expect Chapter 2 in the not-too-distant future! We’ve also revealed the goal for the all-new Chapter 3: $350,000!

For fans of dungeon crawlers and gameplay focused eroge, there’s the new title The Spirit Master of Retarnia ~Conqueror of the Labyrinth~ by our brand new partner, indie-developer Lunasoft!

Join the Spirit Master of Retarnia in saving the kingdom from the Demon World at the behest of your queen! Explore classic, 3D dungeons with a host of five heroines, each with their own special abilities! Power up with equipment uncovered in the dungeon, and customize your party’s skills as they level up to create the best builds for your style!

On top of that, MangaGamer had a big announcement for yaoi and BL fans: from parade, the creators of No, Thank You!!! comes Room No. 9!

Best friends Daichi and Seiji set out on an almost too-good-to-be-true summer vacation, but it quickly turns into a nightmare…

Instead of the island paradise they were expecting, they find themselves trapped in a strange room and forced to participate in an incomprehensible “experiment” demanding that they either harm Daichi physically or Seiji sexually. They’ll have to play along to have any hope of escaping with their lives, but that means hurting each other and possibly destroying their friendship—and their minds—in the process.

While Daichi is quick to declare that he’d be just fine less one arm, and Seiji argues for the options that won’t leave lasting physical scars, do they really understand the consequences? Can they survive the “experiment” and is survival alone enough?

Of course, that doesn’t mean yuri fans are being left out either, as MangaGamer announced the acquisition of Yurin Yurin’s A Kiss for the Petals ~Maidens of Michael~, slated for release on MangaGamer and Steam!

Picking up from the famous, original A Kiss for the Petals titles, Maidens of Michael reintroduces the five couples fans have grown to know and love while expanding on their story, sharing many new months worth of development as their relationships lose their freshness and encounter the hardships of long term love. As these ten girls learn how to manage life and love, grow, and support each other, a new budding couple is introduced as well.

And last but not least, MangaGamer is proud to announce the acquisition of two new titles from Alicesoft: the famous, highly anticipated Sengoku Rance and Rance Quest Magnum!

After ditching his bride-to-be from Rance VI, the infamous Rance travels to the great nation of Nippon for a hot-springs vacation–only to get enlisted by Nobunaga Oda! What starts as a war to reclaim land quickly leads to conquering the entirety of Nippon and bring its warring states to heel under Rance’s command!

Departing from Rance’s traditional RPG style, Sengoku Rance is a grand strategy game ruled by army battles, the conquest of territories, and management of your forces. Conquer as you please, with every victory altering the face of the war! New characters, new events, and new encounters unlock based on the path you take. Experienced players can even enjoy a NG+ mode, with more stories, more heroines, and more conquests to pursue!

Returning from his grand adventure of unifying Nippon, Rance is back home and planning to take it easy for a while. Being Rance, though, he’s barely into his vacation before he’s getting into trouble and he’s struck with a debilitating curse! Under the curse, Rance is unable to have sex with any woman under level 35, and if he goes without a woman for too long, he just might find himself turned off from them forever (if he can even hold out that long). Seems there’s no time for a vacation after all! Rance sets off on another grand (though not always grave) adventure across the Continent: to find and fuck all the girls over level 35 he can get his hands on.

Chasing his (ig)noble goal, you will challenge hundreds of quests and recruit dozens of characters. There’s a huge variety of adventures, dungeons, missions (both weighty and wacky), and sexy things all waiting for you! Meet new faces and return to old companions’ beds while you do whatever and whoever it takes to break Rance’s curse.

Sengoku Rance and Rance Quest Magnum will be released separately on MangaGamer. Rance Quest Magnum will include both the base game and the Magnum expansion content in a single package.

And that’s it for Otakon! As always, you can keep tabs on our announcements and convention appearances on our Announcements and Convention Schedule page!

  1. I couldn’t have expected 3 Alicesoft games this year. You guys are crazy. Otakon>>>>>Anime Expo just for having Sengoku Rance and Rance Quest Magnum announced at the same time. Also, 2017>2016.

I’m a tiny bit surprised to see you publishing Dizzy Hearts. I sort of assumed Lupiesoft went to Nutaku, but I guess that was just one game.

Spirit Master of Retarnia might be cool. I’m not expecting anything fantastic, but I’ll buy it when I feel like an old-school first person dungeon crawler.

Also, I’m really glad you got Maidens of Michael. I’ve been hoping for that game since you released your first Sono Hana game.

    • Regarding your comment about Lupiesoft, I heard somewhere (talking about anime, but the same thing was asked) that Japanese businesses take the phrase “Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket” very seriously.

    • Seriously, once they announced Rance Quest Magnum 2017 Otakon became legendary. Adding Evenicle and Sengoku Rance was like throwing an extra 1000 dollars on top of a million dollar stack.

  2. Very excited for more Sono Hana. Thanks Mangagamer.

  3. i know it popular but can we get less Moe, Otome and Yuri game’s next year, there’s so many genres and classics not being translated because these, horror titles like Sayonara o Oshiete,Pigeon Blood & Oujo no Abaddon, 90s classics that we never got to see such as Ballade for Maria & Viper F40, the iconic C’s Ware games could use a new translation and code that runs on modern systems better, some bara titles would be nice, maybe a RPG or two like Bunny Black Series or Angel’s Feather.

so much is being left behind because there’s such an over focus on only three genres, i’m happy to see Room No. 9 not only because it yaoi but the fact it not another game of these three genres, the yaoi titles are the only things i’m looking forward to nowadays.

    • Mangagamer only has two otome games in its entire catalogue, and one isn’t even released yet. I would love to see more otome.

    • …There’s three RPGs in this announcement. In fact, zero otome games were announced this year. 2 BL, 1 yuri, and about 3 moege out of 15 or so titles for the year have been announced. I wouldn’t say any of those genres are being overdone. In fact, those three genre’s don’t even make up 50% of this years announcements. There were more RPGs announced then any of those.

    • Pigeon blood i played only mizusawa( the golden tsundere haired boy) and I loved his route and seiyuu. But that engine was a horrendous on a 2k screen, if they ever translate it I hope they port it in ren’py like naked butler

    • Don’t need less of anything, just need more darkness (KONOSUBA!), forreal tho more gore, horror, and literal mindfuck 😉

      • What the heck is KONOSUBA? Looking online, I found Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o!, but that doesn’t seem dark. Subarashiki Hibi can count, but there’s no ‘kono’. ??

That aside, I agree. MORE DARK! Ah, but I absolutely won’t say no to more Alicesoft.

    • covering more genres helps to bring more money from other places than regular costumers so wth would they bring less of anything

  4. Hope you guys will pick Ao no Kanata next year

  5. Well, time to delete my Fuwanovel version of Sengoku rance 🙂

  6. Still gonna hope for an Inyouchuu announcement sometime before the end of the year =P

  7. Room. 9 yes!. So happy. I tried playing it in Japanese but was a bit too much complicated and my backlog was eternal. Bara is conquering the world ( joking). But really. This was unthinkable some time ago, I even learned Japanese for reading bl and otomes.

  8. That figures I decided to get The Stargazers by Lupiesoft 2 weeks ago and now it’s getting a remastered version xD… It’s got to be standalone so I wasted money buying the original version.

WOOT more Alicesoft and Sono Hana games.

    • Should think about doing a Kickstarter for Supipara maybe when it has about $50k left to reach goal, especially if it’s going to take more than one year to get close to the $350k goal.

  9. Thank you SO much for licensing Room No.9! I can’t wait to pre-order it!!

  10. Well, that’s certainly the year of gameplay titles – another three in addition to the already announced Evenicle. Some good announcements for fans of Rance, yaoi and yuri I guess. Nothing of interest for me though.
Should Supipara ever be complete I might consider picking it up, but until then I’ll not going to support this endless farce anymore.
Still, it’s kind of a relieve that there are at least no real creep releases this year.

  11. Will they ever get the original sono hana’s translated I’ve never gotten to play those so this new title is worthless to me please stop releasing continuations when a great many players haven’t played the originals it’s like opening up a romance and just reading the epilogue or if someone can give me a reliable site that I can find these at to play I’d be greatful

  12. Looking forward to the Lunasoft title and Room number 9 🙂
I hope you guys will be pleased with FLML’s sales and will get us more 18+ otome

  13. Well, damn… I can’t even begin to comment on this, my brain is still having trouble accepting all the greatness here…

  14. Rance :'( Even Sengoku Rance can be released, It’s too great

  15. Pingback: Visual Novel Translation Status (08/12/2017) – Fuwanovel

  16. Thank god, Rance Quest and Sengoku were both chosen. Thank you very much, Mangagamer! Only one or two years away from IX now…

But…even now the answer hasn’t emerged. WHAT IS SECRET PROJECT #1??

  17. Ugh! Again no otome games announcements 🙁

  18. Really glad to get another Kiss for the Petals game. Anyone know why it is Maidens of Michael instead of Maidens of Saint Michael? Their school is Saint Michael, right?

I was a Kickstarter backer of both Dizzy Hearts and His Chuunibyou Can’t be Cured.
I’m glad to see those both coming here because I know they won’t be censored here.

  19. So happy you guys are bringing over another parade game! I’m so ready to be able to pre order Room No. 9. Thanks for your impeccable taste, as always~

  20. Konosuba is a novel series turned anime, and a comedic take on the isekai genre. The joke is that one of the characters is named Darkness. I really suggest giving the series a try; it’s hilarious.

  21. Way too much yuri, BLs and nukige RPGs for my taste, I sure loved Otakon much more last year. And outside Damekoi AX was pretty bare too this time around. Oh well, thanks anyway. Hopefully, on the next occasion you will gladden your other fans and pick up something like Byakko, Amatsutsumi, Fairytale Requiem or Evolimit from your old partners.

  22. Supipara Chp3! That’s it!
Quite excited to hear there really is a GOAL for the release of the unreavealed parts of the story

  23. I can’t believe it…. Rance Quest Magnum. It’s like the holy grail of Eroge RPG’s.

I’m going to promote the release of this game like I work for Mangagamer. Every fucking blog on the internet will be notified of this incredible announcement.

God bless you Mangagamer. God fucking bless you!!! My balls are ready!

  24. oh hell yeah rance quest gogogogogo make it happen

  25. I don’t see any video of the panel – apparently it was mentioned there that Trinoline will also feed into the Supipara funding? Is there official confirmation of that?

  26. I have only one sentence for your announcement of Sengoku Rance and Rancequest Magnum: SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!!!!! WHERE’S THE PREORDER PADE?????

  27. Ok, now i think next Rance games to be released, will be Rance 01,02 and 03. I think we will get Rance IX last one

    • Except for Rance 02 (which will likely be bundled with Rance 01 since that’s shorter than both 03 and IX), I think they’ll go release order. That would mean 01/02 bundle, IX, then 03. I don’t think there’s any issue with reading 03 before IX, but alternating the remakes and the not-remakes makes sense.

    • I will sob a river if so. I’ve been impatiently waiting for IX to be translated for three years now…

  28. Super excited for Room No.9! I’m not usually a big fan of “yaoi” but I really like the premise :> I get so excited when y’all announce more “hardcore” games haha I love Euphoria + all of the other Clock Up! titles :> Super looking forward to Maggot Baits dropping + tbh I hope y’all pick up more games in the same strain in the future (Would esp love to see ( + buy!!) Fraternite or Natsu no Kusari if it ever makes its way over ✌️✨)

  30. Ah, Supipara ch.2 how I’ve waited for it. Considering how long it took for ch.2 though, ch.3 is definitely looking to be an uphill battle and a very steep one at that.

  31. Rance games ? Take my money ! *throws it at them*

  32. I really wish i saw Kyonyuu Fantasy Gaiden (Funbag Fantasy sequel) getting pucked up. Kyonyuu Fantasy 2 would be ok as well but the Gaiden is a direct sequel with same protagonist.
I’m crossing my fingers i see they pick it up for translation before this year ends.

  33. So there’s only one new nukige release this year? I guess I’ll get Sengoku Rance as well.

  34. I was really hoping for Shin Koihime Musou

  35. Im really happy for Rance Quest Magnum, but Sengoku Rance was quite a surprising news, considering that it was already completely fan translated for so long and all, I dont expect it selling much if its sold alone, so please make it a pack again ^^
So, are you guys re-translating the whole game or just officially launching the fan translation? Can you add some extra content? XD like more events and characters XD or a whole new route? XD
Thanks for all your hard work.
