We’re excited to announce that we will be working with our friends over at GOG to bring our growing catalog to their platform!
With the viability of Steam as a retail platform for visual novels thrown into question by recent threats from Valve, we have begun perusing other potential retail outlets for our products and we are pleased to join GOG’s growing catalog!
Our PR Director, John Pickett, had this to say: “This opportunity couldn’t have come at a better time. We had been speaking with GOG prior to recent events about adding visual novels as a genre to their retail platform, and with Valve now threatening the livelihoods of visual novel developers everywhere, it’s a huge relief to see GOG opening their doors to these games.”
Though the initial launch titles are limited to the Higurashi When They Cry series and fan favorite, eden*, we are working closely with GOG on bringing nine other titles to their platform, including the recently threatened Kindred Spirits on the Roof, which will be receiving a recently announced full-voice expansion, as well as A Kiss for the Petals ~Maidens of Michael~, which Valve removed from the Steam storefront in March 2018 without any warning or notice.
“We have yet to hear from Valve regarding the removal of Maidens of Michael despite repeated attempts at contact.” John Pickett continues. “Steam has now proven that it’s growing unreliable for small and independent developers, so we are very grateful to have the next biggest retailer in the PC market welcoming visual novels with open arms and an eye for quality. In the long run we hope to transition our full Steam catalog over to GOG, and we hope other developers will consider reaching out to them too. We want fans everywhere to always have a means of enjoy these great titles.”
We are also joined in this new move to GOG by fellow visual novel publisher, Sekai Project.

Wait, GOG is accepting VNs in general now? That’s neat.
Wow! Great news, thank you MangaGamer and GOG!

Wow! This is a rather unexpected and very welcome surprise!
Nice one, heres hoping for a more communicative platform for our dear games so that we don’t have to fear the removal of them without reasonable justification.
Will they be allowing full 18+ uncensored versions of your translated VNs or simply the all-ages versions?
I’m happy for you, people prefer to buy from different stores and having more options is always good.
I will still continue to buy directly from you, just to support you as much as possible.
That’s great! I’ll certainly go and buy something from you guys now! GOG is just great (even though I’m still waiting on the Linux version of Galaxy) and having more on the DRM-free platform is well worth a couple of Euros.
Are there any recommendations for somebody who enjoyed HuniePop and hasn’t played a lot of VNs before (I think Solstice and the Life is Strange series are my only entries in that realm)?
None of them are at all like HuniePop and most of them have little in common with Life is Strange. They are generally all good games, though. If you like strategy or tactics games, both main Sunrider games are a lot of fun. Start with the free one and then move to Liberation Day. If you fall in love with the characters, try Academy. The characters are fun, but the rest of Academy is a lot of tedious stat-raising.
Eden, Fault, and Higurashi are all more story based – much closer to Solstice than the other two. They all make you think in different ways. Eden is a very philosophical game with a somewhat sad storyline. Higurashi is a horror mystery and makes you think about motives and things like that. Fault is way lighter than Eden or Higurashi – it is a fantasy in a strange setting where you try to puzzle out what happened.
Thanks for your reply!
I bought the Sunrider games over at GOG, they’re a lot of fun so far. Will look into Fault and maybe the others as well.
Good decision. GOG is great . my favorite store and they do what their customers want and aren’t afraid if “someobody” is complaining like Steam was.
Awesome! I aways prefer to buy from GOG whenever they and steam have something, so ill gladly move my new library to them.
Holy fucking shit.
Something I never expected to happen at all, ever.
Finally GoG is starting to look like a feasible alternative to Steam in the future
Will they still be censored? Or will GOG allow AO content on it’s platform.
Exxxcellent idea! So glad this is happening…!
How will you handle the all-ages and patch problems?
Does GOG allow to write directly on the store page that the game has been censored and a uncut patch is available?
Will you be able to post uncut patch links directly on the store page and/or forum?
Will you be able to offer the patches over the “Backups and goodies”-section inside the GOG library?
Personally I think you’ll betray every customer that purchase censored games if you don’t inform him about the situation (has something been removed/altered? what has been removed/altered?).

Are these 18+ versions? If it’s just another storefront for censored products I honestly couldn’t care less.

Good to hear! Any chance of a GOG Connect Mangagamer opportunity so those of us that bought on Steam can play the GOG ones?

Great to hear. I don’t think Valve was expecting such a backlash.

Wow, this is great. I remember hearing some talk a few games ago about how GOG didn’t like VNs but I’m happy they’ve changed their minds.

It really is a shame that Steam are acting like that. I’ve always said that Steam should have a system where people can verify their age and so be able to buy adult content, without interference from anyone else. But you think Steam would implement it? No. Its ridiculous.
Anyway, this is great news. I’ve always liked GOG.
