The Closure of Minori

Thank you, everyone, for your continued patience and understanding following the recent news of minori’s closure.

We have received a number of emails and messages from concerned customers and fans but felt it necessary to obtain as much information as possible from minori before issuing a public statement of our own.

For your convenience, we have provided minori’s original Japanese press release, along with a brief summary of that same text. While this post may not answer all of your questions at this time, we will do our best to provide updates whenever possible.

As many of you are aware, minori, the developer behind titles such as ef – a fairy tale of the two, eden*, Supipara, and Trinoline, has decided to cease domestic operations in Japan. We understand this news came as a great shock to many of our customers, fans, and staff members. There have been a number of rumors circulating behind this closure, the most notable relating to bankruptcy. We want to assure you that this rumor is false – minori is not declaring bankruptcy.

We have provided a brief summary of the official statement listed on minori’s website on February 28th, 2019. As previously mentioned, the full Japanese text can be found in this same post.

  1. We (minori) were not able to meet the original release date for our newest title, Sono Hi no Kemono ni wa (その日の獣には), and broke our promise to our customers.
  2. We (minori) feel there is a divergence between what we want to create versus what customers want today.
  3. By ceasing operations now, our staff can still find work elsewhere and continue their respective careers.
  4. We (minori) believed in what we wanted to create when we developed this company, and bending those ideals, purely for the sake of existing, wouldn’t be right.

What does this mean for Trinoline, the Supipara fundraiser, and the rest of their unlicensed catalog?

For starters, Trinoline’s license and release are perfectly fine. In fact, you can pre-order your copy right now on our website if you so choose.

Additionally, although minori is still sorting things out internally, they would like to continue working with MangaGamer to license and localize their other unlicensed properties that have not yet been released overseas.

However, the fate of the Supipara fundraiser is still unknown at this time. We are working with minori’s president and CEO, nbkz, to work out those details. More information will be made available at a later date.

We thank you all for your continued support and patronage. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to our customer support line, support@mangagamer.com

Thank you.

  1. Would love their work without mosaics now that this happened ):

  2. I still pray for the funding of Supipara. Even if it was made with Kickstarter or even if it is hopeless, I will still pray for it!

Thank you for everything minori and I hope that more titles from you can be translated!

  3. I’m mostly just glad to see that we can still eventually get their other unlicensed properties as well, especially seeing how minori was my choice for continued cooperation in the licensing survey as well.

    • While it’s nice that they can get the other licenses from minori, at the end of the day it will depend on how well Trinoline will sell, since even with minori’s closure they still have to pay for the license rights, translator, editors and so on.
Lets hope that the steam release sells better than Supipara.

  5. Sadly it seems to be the norm to be disconnected to the customers. Frontwing for example still hasn’t produced a single new game that matches what customers want. Light failed miserably with releasing a full version of Dies Irae. Navel abandoned the fans who wanted the full Shuffle game. And Minori was not very good at accepting that people aren’t into episodic games and all-ages. Steam removing titles like Hello;Goodbye is another example of when a company does not understand the customers nor even the games.

The market is there, but few seem to be going for it because they’d rather do their own thing than make customers happy.

I hope the staff at Minori can get into exciting doujin groups and produce the games they want to make. But I think it is wrong to think they can make a lot of money by only following their own dreams.

  6. I just hope that Supipara will be continued. I really love the story and characters

  7. At least this time you guys acknowledged their press release. Maybe because minori’s always been almost like a founder here.
I’m still wondering how the English side of licenses worked out after hearing about Chuable’s demise back in 2017 when they declared bankruptcy.

  8. Yeah, the Minori closure was pretty unexpected. Though, it’s still good to hear that was it was at least a controlled closure and not bankruptcy, so the employees should be fine and able to find work elsewhere.

Switching to vulture mode, I’d still be interested to see Natsuzora no Perseus and Soreyori no Prologue getting translated.

  9. Ouch and I recently started on the Supipara games since I really loved the artistic style of eden*. Was really enjoying it too.

  10. Any chance we can get their work, like Trinoline, without the mosaics now? Cause I’m not interested in purchasing censored products.

  11. A huge loss in the industry, their visuals and lightings are really something else. Sadly Supipara sequel is probably never going to see the light of day just like Half Life 3. At least we got to see Amano route which is the best route no doubt.
