In the course of our investigation into the malicious software discovered in the recent reprint of Higurashi: When They Cry Hou+ (USB Hardcopy), our supplier managed to trace the source of the malware to a single compromised machine within their operation, and narrowed the window to a specific timeframe. Unfortunately, we’ve discovered that the recent reprint of Umineko: When They Cry (USB Hardcopy) was also produced during this timeframe. Our warehouse’s records suggest that potentially 20 units of this second print run may have been shipped since July 3rd. Our tests of sample units of the Umineko drives have not conclusively indicated tampering like the Higurashi ones did, but out of an abundance of caution we will be refunding these purchases immediately and contacting affected customers.
Orders made in combination with pre-order items which have not yet released will be shipped corrected copies of Umineko When They Cry (USB Hardcopy) when the pre-order items are ready to ship. If you believe you purchased a compromised copy of Umineko When They Cry (USB Hardcopy) at a convention or from a third party vendor, please e-mail support@mangagamer.com and include “Umineko USB” in the subject line.
Based on the source and timeframe of the compromised drives, we do not believe any other titles or print runs have been affected. The USB hardcopy currently in production is undergoing additional testing to ensure its integrity.
