At the end of last year it was brought to our attention that a reprint run of our Higurashi: When They Cry Hou + (USB Hardcopy) had likely been compromised with malware. In the course of our investigation, our production partner traced the source of the incident to a single compromised machine in their facility, and that unfortunately the Umineko: When They Cry (USB Hardcopy) reprint that had been ordered around the same time had also been produced with that same machine. As a result, we’ve refunded all potentially affected units that were traceable and notified these customers directly. We do not believe any other titles were affected.
We have worked with our production partner to rectify the issue to our satisfaction and they have reviewed their processes to ensure additional safeguards are in place moving forward. We’ve also implemented additional testing on our end to ensure the safety of our products.
New copies of the USB Hardcopy editions of both Higurashi: When They Cry Hou + and Umineko: When They Cry are available for purchase on our website.
We will continue to assist customers who may have purchased affected copies with cash at AnimeNYC in 2025 (if you believe you may have been one of those affected this way, please contact us at support@mangagamer.com).
Going forward, even with the additional safeguards implemented by our production partner and our own additional testing of products, if you attempt to install one of our games via physical media and your system’s anti-virus warns you not to, please do not proceed with the installation and contact us at support@mangagamer.com.
